You're on a job, in a meeting or driving. Someone calls, you miss it, and the caller hears nothing back. A missed call auto reply app fixes that by sending a short SMS such as "Hi! Sorry I missed your call. I'm busy right now, but I'll get back to you as soon as I can." The apps differ a lot in complexity, pricing and how much you have to set up.

1. Auto TextBack: the simplest missed call reply

Auto TextBack does one job: when you miss a call, it sends the caller your own message as a normal SMS from your phone number, through your mobile operator. You write the message, switch it on, and get on with your day.

  • Your own message, in any language, with a 160-character counter.
  • Cooldown per number, from 5 minutes to 48 hours, so repeat callers don't get repeat texts.
  • Daily and monthly limits, and paused hours when no replies go out.
  • Works without internet. No account, no ads.

Pricing: a one-time purchase after 3 free auto-replies. No subscription. Google Play shows your country's price. Its limitation is also its design: it handles missed calls only, not other call types or messaging apps.

Best choice if: you want one simple reply for missed calls, with no subscription.

2. NOMO: a basic reply with premium upgrades

NOMO – Missed Call Auto-Reply also focuses on missed calls. The base app sends a default reply and has a simple on/off control. Custom messages, scheduling by day and time, multiple reply profiles and an activity log are premium features. The listing says call log data is processed on the device. It shows "Contains ads" and "In-app purchases".

Best choice if: a default reply is enough to start, and you may want scheduling and profiles later.

3. ReplyMate: automation for many call events

ReplyMate: Call Automation can send an SMS after missed, rejected, answered or outgoing calls, when the line is busy, or outside working hours. You can set work, sleep and vacation schedules, filter by contacts or unknown numbers, use templates with placeholders, choose the SIM on dual-SIM phones and see a log of each message's status. It has a free trial, with paid plans for all triggers.

Best choice if: you need detailed rules for several kinds of calls, and don't mind the setup.

4. Callback SMS – Auto Rules: rules by time and day

Callback SMS – Auto Rules is built around rules. Each rule can target incoming, outgoing or missed calls, specific days and hours, and use its own message, so working hours and evenings can get different replies. It also has repeat limits per number, contact exclusions, a send history and optional photo attachments. The listing shows in-app purchases, and automatic MMS sending requires a subscription.

Best choice if: your replies should change by day, time or call type.

5. Smart Auto Reply: calls plus messaging apps

Smart Auto Reply covers more than phone calls. Its rules can reply on SMS, WhatsApp, LINE and KakaoTalk, with contact rules, day and date scheduling, rule priorities and reports. The free tier includes one SMS rule. Missed call replies and the messaging apps are premium.

Best choice if: you want automatic replies across messaging apps as well as calls.

How to choose a missed call auto reply app

  • Does it send the SMS automatically? Some apps only show a notification or suggest a reply you send yourself. Check that the text goes out without you tapping Send.
  • Can you write your own message? A message in your own words works better than a generic one. A plumber might use: "Hi, I'm on a job and can't answer. Text me your address and what you need, and I'll get back to you."
  • Does it stop repeat texts? If someone calls three times in five minutes, they shouldn't get three replies. Look for a cooldown or repeat limit per number. It also saves SMS charges.
  • What permissions does it need? These apps need phone state, call log and SMS permissions to work. Read the privacy policy and the Data safety section on Google Play.
  • Do you need a subscription? For many workflows across channels, a subscription platform can make sense. To acknowledge missed calls, a one-time purchase is usually enough. Your operator's normal SMS rates apply either way.

Which app should you choose?

For detailed automation, ReplyMate and Callback SMS offer the most rules. For several messaging apps, look at Smart Auto Reply. NOMO gives you a basic reply with premium options. And if you simply want to send your own SMS after a missed call, with no account, no ads and no subscription, Auto TextBack is built for exactly that.

Frequently asked questions

Can Android automatically send a text after a missed call?

Yes. Apps such as Auto TextBack and NOMO detect missed calls and send an SMS automatically once you grant the call log and SMS permissions.

Do missed call auto reply apps need internet?

Not necessarily. Auto TextBack works without internet: the reply goes out as a normal SMS through your mobile network.

Does the caller need to install anything?

No. With SMS-based apps such as Auto TextBack, the caller receives a normal text message.

Are automatic missed call replies free?

It depends on the app and your operator. Apps use free tiers, one-time purchases or subscriptions, and your operator charges its usual SMS rate for each reply.

What is the simplest missed call auto reply app for Android?

If all you need is your own SMS after a missed call, Auto TextBack is designed around that one function. If you need more triggers, schedules and contact rules, ReplyMate or Callback SMS may suit you better.
